Discrete Funk

Hi fellas. I'm Jason Overby, and I'm the new guy here. This's probably gonna be the first page of a comic I'm working on right now. Let me know what you think.

Hi! THis comic looks like the piece of paper underneath the paper you were doing the actual comic on you know? LIke the one you put under your paper so you don't mark up your table? That said, i like the forms. I just can't make heads or tails of it.

Hi Jason,
So.... a guy is in bed and wishes he could stop time, this happens and he is shocked. Then it cuts to a scene where either a spirit or the guy himself is flying out of some kind of building with a gun. Is that right?
it was fun trying to decipher it even if it's not. The style reminds me of reportage drawing where you're trying to get a complex scene down in a hurry. Perhaps it would look cool and make it easier to read if you used two colours, one for the character and one for the squiggly background.
Do you have any other work online?

Welcome Jason, you've got some insane markings going on here.

Thanks, guys. Check out more stuff at http://www.discretefunk.com/ . This page is more to set the scene of the book than anything else. The following pages (though not always making the most sense) have more of a narrative flow. And it makes sense that this page would resemble "the piece of paper underneath the paper you were doing the actual comic on" because a lot of how I make drawings is by erasing lines and then drawing/inking the erasures that make nice patterns.

I wonder how much your stuff is "about" narrative in the traditional sense. I like that burring of bounds.

Yeah - I actually try to get away from narrative and just use it to propel the imagery. The actual "content" of the comics is the relationships between the words and the images (how that develops concretely or abstractly).
